Bits of LA from over the last month.

Bits of LA from over the last month.

Bit of info.

Over half of LA is mexican. Only about 30% causation. 13ish % Asian. Mexicans first inhabited this area, then Spain, who left. Then the American colonials came. Building wealth from oil at about the same time Hollywood started. There are tens of thousands of oil wells in the city. As you can imagine there are the rich and poor. I think people on the outside perceive LA as rich and the famous. Glam. All from the movies but not really accurate at all. Mexicans can work 3-4 jobs. The prices are very inflated. With that, and illegals, comes crime. Drugs and human trafficking. Theres a high rape rate here too. One of worst cities to live in unfortunately. A bit run down and overflowing, not enough infrastructure. Older. Not enough hospitals. ER “wait times” to get in to see a doc average 3 hrs on a good day and can be as long as 24 hrs! I cant imagine. After spending more time here, not just coming in to see the main attractions, I’d say, overall California as a state is a lot poorer and struggling more than what I realized.

We did visit Olvera street and Historic El Pluebo but felt is was a bit of an old tourist area. Here are a couple of pics anyways.

This is one of the oldest homes in LA you can visit there for free.

I wouldnt recommend Tostitos at Cielito Lindo even though theyve been around for so long. Very poor food quality, like mexican fast food.

In the area there is also a historic firehouse and Chinese museum because the Union Station built over China town who then relocated.

Another weekend we visited Getty Villa. Build by an oil billionaire and now open for the public. It has a lovely courtyard. If your interested in artifacts and sculptures from Egyptian and Roman times etc there’s a decent collection to browse through. Its free but parking is $25.

District Market downtown was really exciting. You could revisit this place for some time, there is so much food and variety to try.

There’s also a neat donut vender and you can watch the donut making process from start to finish.

Again, food is so expensive and the better the food the higher the prices. Doubling prices sometimes than what we are used to. Some places I refuse to pay such steep prices so we’ve eaten out a lot less.

Point Vicente Lighthouse, south LA.

Nice for a short Sunday afternoon drive and stroll.

Great donuts at Sidecar.

The boys enjoyed a savory pizza donut.

Neat window view.

Sand hill barricade to protect the rv park from high winter tides. There’s been lots of surfing.

I notice theres a lot more people outside in the winter months here and more night life with the shorter daylight hours. Up north people will spend the winter months at home curled up where its warm.

So cool to see LA from this perspective. Would love the oyster bar and the old house would be so cool. Love history in other countries. Yes lots of Mexicans for sure.
