Little did I know that Thomas Edison had a winter home in Fort Meyers. We toured the property, which now belongs to the city. I appreciated mostly the story of friendship. Beginning with, Thomas selling a portion of his property to a friend and business partner who shortly thereafter stole from him and betray him. Many years later that property was sold to Henry Ford, whom then became dear friends with Edison. Before Henry’s death he sold the property for the value that it had been originally sold to him, $2,500 ish, so that he could say that he never gained financially from his friendship with Edison. At a later date that family eventually sold it to the city for 1.5 million.

The study was there too. I just figured the write up was more interesting!

This pool was made after his family stayed in a hotel with a pool and the kids loved it.

This is the cistern that collected all the rain runoff water from the roofs, etc. The ground water is high in sulfur.

Thomas did lots of work with the rubber tree and latex.

The estate has lots of plants and trees collected by his wife. The tour covered soo much more and was well worth the five dollar up charge. We enjoyed it very much. Even Noah!
