This museum has a pretty good collection of art through time. Today we brought to life ongoing studies of art history. Impressionism and American art. 19th-20th century. Names like Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir and Grant Wood would be artists from these time periods.

(Starry Night is in NY! We missed it!) There were a few of his other works I’d not seen before. I think the best word to describe them is, strange. Literally.

These are some other earlier paintings that caught my eye.

I really appreciated seeing visuals of things from our history and homeland…these are some favourites.

American Gothic 1930, Grant Wood

And wouldn’t you know, abstract art has been around for some time. So strange to see these kinds of paintings from the early 1850’s through the 1900’s too!

The Millennium Park.
Just outside the art museum. There were food trucks there too. Lovely day.

And to top off the day, we ate at a local favorite spot for Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Pequod’s Pizzeria. Pretty good. CDD pizza is known for its sauce and toppings on top of the cheese. The crust reminded me of home-made pizza when we were teens. Risen but not chewy like a Neapolitan pizza. Nice tart tomato sauce. The burnt part of the crust was hard to chew but we still enjoyed it. Lol.

It was fun to try the classic but if we’re ever back in Chicago we’ll definitely go back to Professor pizza! Its up there with some of the best pizza we’ve tried. Light chewy crunchy crust, tart sauce, great pepperoni and a nice twist of smooth ricotta. Yum!
