El Paso is the only border city on the US Mexican border. 81% of people here are hispanic. You need to be bilingual for most jobs. A lot of jobs are customer phone support. You will come across people who dont speak any english. The city is ranked 8th among 10 of the safest cities in the US? Perhaps do to the military presence? The outskirts have the most crime. Its been recent that the drug cartel in Mexico has been smuggling people into El Paso to move their product. There are still people who are still risking their lives to get across the border that die of dehydration and heat exhaustion. The area has a lot of poverty. Unlike anything we’ve seen in before in real life. Some areas worse than others. I find it quiet a juxtaposition to see American store chains in such an impoverished area. The mexican side, as expected, looks like a third world country. The surrounding area is dessert, speckled with clusters of mountains, and many farms like cotton and pecan farms. The people are unexpectedly friendly with smiles and waves unlike any where else we’ve travelled so far. I wished I could help somehow. We’ve check out a few touristy places and a few mexican restaurants, even a coffee shop, but as much as it was a fun experience at first, cant shake or deny the feel of poverty. It doesn’t feel like we are in the USA. Its feels sad. Our campsite West Sky could use a “lot”of help. It seems it is mother and son running the place. I’ve taken humor seeing the road runner, the state bird, running around here, and thinking how small it is compared to that loony toon cartoon.

He’s here because he’s hunting the Tarantula Hawk Wasp. This insect is an alarming sight! You can hear this thing fly in! He’s got the second most painful sting in the world, second to the Bullet ant. The name describes the intensity.
