On our way to Monterey for the day we pulled over to check out the sand dunes we saw from the hwy. It was the highlight of the day for me. Absolutely stunning.
Note. From where we were staying, Gilroy to the coast, about 45 minutes, the temperature changed from 30C/86F to 15C/59F, so like San Fran, check the temp ahead and be prepared.
I believe this area is called the Marina Sand Dunes. Its a fun spot to watch paragliding too.

Fishermans Warf
Mostly restaurants.

Cannery Row & Aquarium
Cannery Row is mostly shopping. Rob and I went to this aquarium before we had Noah. It is a small aquarium but has a cool jelly fish exhibit and we’d love to share it with Noah. However, I refuse to pay their inflated prices since covid at $50 for youth and $65 for adults.

We drove the 17 mile drive. $12/vehicle. The drive is about half residential. There were some coastal lookout points to start but they were overgrown with trees too see anything. Down, along the coast, there were rocky lookout points along a golf course and several beaches. That was nice and the highlight of the drive. The end of the drive was residential again but there were cypress trees there to see.

Carmel
This town has quaint little shops, nice restaurants, etc. We enjoyed a drive in the residential area along the coast to the River park. Really lovely cottage houses and yards.

There are also many Spanish missions here with tours and roadmaps to find them that would make for a fun day.

We enjoyed great coffee and housemade syrups at Captain+Stoke.
