Driving along the highway we passed by the sweetest little town you ever did see. We just had to turn around to drive into it. Not an easy feat with a 31 ft rig plus another 15 ft tow.

Notice the sign for parking your snowmobile in the winter months. I could just imagine it. How fun!

We had a walk around and a bite to eat at Blackboard Cafe. Such a charming historic town. Just look at that view.

We learned that the town is known for its silver mine and decided to do the tour. It was excellent! The best mine tour we’ve ever done!

Our tour guide was a third generation miner. He was full of spit and fire and had a wealth of knowledge. He gave us the history of the mine, we learned about how everything worked, and he even turned on old machinery, which was surprising to me. The mine was never very productive and eventually was used for training. Our guide even worked here teaching students back in the day.

Drilling for core samples.

Drilling holes for dynamite.
A fault line, looking up.

The mine floors below are filled with rainwater.

Hauling the minerals out.

Again, excellent tour! We were so glad we stopped!
The town does have a small rv area for the night or weekend just past the overpass in the pic below. There are also a number of restaurants, bar, little stores and a neat little theater that would be fun if the timing was right. Cheers!

Past date now but an example.
